More Details / FAQs :
League play will begin with a two week preseason on Feb 19, 2024, followed by the 7 week regular season beginning Mar 4, 2024. For those teams that qualify, playoffs will start Apr 22, 2024. There is no travel involved as all competition is over the Internet.
This league is played online through a queue system managed by Generation Esports, with students competing once a week in a “Best of” match format depending on the game they’re competing in. Each game is played on a specific day of the week with multiple time slots available for the players to choose from. Each “team” may compete once per week, with 1v1 players being considered a “team of 1”. All games are rated E, with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate being rated E10+ because of cartoon violence.
Game | Format | Day | Queue Times |
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate | 1v1, Best of 5 | Monday | 4:00pm, 4:30pm, 5:00pm |
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe | 4v4, Best of 3 (4 races per game) | Wednesday | 3:00pm**, 4:00pm, 5:00pm, 6:00pm |
Rocket League (3v3)* | 3v3, Best of 5 | Thursday | 3:00pm**, 4:00pm, 5:00pm |
Rocket League (2v2)* | 2v2, Best of 5 | Monday | 3:00pm**, 4:00pm, 5:00pm, 6:30pm |
*Per Psyonix (the game developer) policy and MSEL rules, players under 13 years of age are not eligible to compete in Rocket League.
** Early release opportunities for players to compete in the 3:00pm queue will be at the discretion of teachers and coaches.
Coaching staff will be on campus with gaming equipment set up for the after school queue times based on player signups. Players will need to communicate with their coach about which queue times they will be playing and equipment will be reserved on a first come basis. There will be a weekly signup form provided to rostered Esports team members for this purpose.
Players also have the option to compete outside of the IMS campus if they own the console and the game they are competing on. Equipment (including consoles, game cartridges, controllers, etc.) will NOT be loaned or checked out to players for any reason. Players that have their own controllers at home will be allowed to bring them for practice and competition if they desire, but neither USD 446 nor its employees will be liable for any loss, damage, or theft.
This is meant as an overview to cover general information. Before regular season play begins I will be making more detailed information available regarding IMS Esports policies and procedures, including practice schedules and player expectations.
